WHY CHURCH? We go to church not to make God happy, but because God gives us opportunity for wholeness when we’re together. We show up so we can see others and to be seen ourselves. We show up so others know how to pray for and care for us and so that we can pray for and take care of others. If we can’t see each other, we can’t help and support each other. Church unites us in common goals toward love, grace, mercy, and peace in our everyday lives.
WHAT CAN MY PASTOR DO FOR ME? Your pastor is there primarily to care about you in the name of God. A pastor can baptize, announce God’s forgiveness in private and public settings, give you God’s bread and wine, baptize, prepare you for confirmation, marry, and bury you; help you connect with resources you need for your everyday life, bless your house, talk through difficulties or questions you have, visit you when you’re sick, suffering, or celebrating, and above all, let you know that God loves you through Christ Jesus. When you’re filled to the brim with faith and trust in God’s love, you’ll be equipped to share that faith and love with others.
SCHEDULING A BAPTISM Baptism is the first gift of God, presented through the church and community: the promise of never-ending love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, and belonging through water and God’s words. Baptism can happen at any age and any season of life.
If you are interested in scheduling a baptism for yourself or someone you love, please contact Pastor Hall at nhall@episcopalpgh.org or at (703) 963-2789.
